I get asked this a lot and to be honest, the world is too big a place to keep visiting the same countries over and over again, but there are some places that capture your heart and no matter how long you spend there you feel like you’ve only just scratched the surface. Here’s my shortlist in no particular order.
I spent 6 weeks there during dry season, but would love to head back in wet season to see the stunning reflections of the salt flats in Uyuni. A photographers dream.
This trip was spurred by a last minute decision, but in 3 weeks I didn’t get to see and do everything I wanted. Next time, I would climb Mount Rinjani and Ijen Volcano, spend more time detoxing in Ubud, and hang out on the Gili islands.
My all-time favourite country! I loved the diversity, you can relax by the most beautiful lake in the world (apparently a fact), hike active volcanoes near Antigua, explore Mayan ruins in Tikal, enjoy the Caribbean’s least known beaches on the coast or swim in the turquoise waterfalls of Semuc Champey. I’d do it all over again in a second.
You could spend a lifetime hiking here and you’d be mesmerised by the views every day. Enough said.
Due to an earthquake, the trail to Mount Kinabalu was closed when I visited, but a new trail has since opened up. Plus I’d happily spot orangutans in the wild again!
6. Costa Rica
Costa Rica genuinely has it all, volcanoes, wild animals, lush rainforests, pristine beaches and surprisingly it’s a foodie’s paradise! I would go back just for the food…
