However, on my second visit to the country, I decided to switch things up and go off the beaten track.
After some googling, I found BIG BERRY Slovenia the perfect place to relax and enjoy some spectacular scenery. This would also give me the opportunity to see another side of this underrated European country.

3. Local Food at Big Berry Slovenia
One of BIG BERRY’s philosophies is to embrace the local environment, so every morning a breakfast basket is delivered to your porch.
The contents include produce from local farms and businesses including fresh signature bread, yoghurt, ghee, jam, cheese, fruit etc.
We loved the unique Pogaca bread so much that we ended up learning how to make it for ourselves when visiting Domačija Šrajf, though I was a little bit too generous with the salt…next time I promise it will be perfect.
4. Stunning Scenery in Bela Krajina Slovenia
The region is covered in lush green countryside, vineyards and turquoise rivers.
It is such a hidden gem that we managed to explore much of the area on our own without any other tourists turning up.
The photos of Krupa River Spring speak for themselves.
5. On-site Activities at Big Berry Slovenia
As well as watersports there are plenty of activities available at the resort such as archery, yoga, beach volleyball, slackline, cycling, badminton, tennis, an incredible BBQ area and some of the comfiest day beds I’ve ever slept on!
6. Local Partnerships with Big Berry Slovenia
Connectivity to the fullest. Dozens of partnerships exist between BIG BERRY and local partners so it’s easy to experience anything from chocolate making to wine tasting, and egg painting to water rafting.
During my three days, I visited several partners including:
- Oljarna Pečarič for oil tasting, to sample more than 20 different cold pressed oils and learn about the production and health benefits of the oils. My favourites were hazelnut, walnut and pumpkin oil.
- Malnarič winery for a cellar tour and wine tasting, it is one of the oldest and largest wineries in the region.
- Domačija Kuzma to tour the old mill and learn about the centuries-old process of flour making in the region, as well as tasting the local alcoholic drink of the region, Rakija.
- Domačija Šrajf to learn about the family business of baking homemade local delicacies as well as traditional bread making.
- Kolpa Adventures for paddle boarding but they also offer canoeing, rafting, and bike tours.
